Scope and contact
This policy covers the BookClue app and bookclue.com. BookClue is independently developed. For privacy questions or requests, contact support@bookclue.com. BookClue is a reader: it does not supply, sell, host or recommend EPUB books or a book catalog. Import only books you have the right to use.
Information on your device
The app stores imported EPUB files, covers, book metadata, reading progress and time, saved vocabulary and limited sentence context, preferences, and library-capacity and reward records on your device. It does not require a BookClue account or provide account-based cloud synchronization. Local storage does not mean all app activity stays on-device: the collection below also applies.
Data collection and use
The following six data types and their purposes reflect the App Privacy disclosures for BookClue. Data linked to you can be associated through a device, installation or advertising identifier, even without a named account. Product interaction used for developer advertising or marketing is separately disclosed as not linked to you. The table distinguishes these uses; it does not describe all usage data as anonymous.
| Data type | Purpose | Identity linkage |
|---|---|---|
| Other User Content | Analytics; App Functionality | Linked to you |
| Device ID | Third-Party Advertising; Analytics; App Functionality | Linked to you |
| Product Interaction | Third-Party Advertising; Analytics | Linked to you |
| Advertising Data | Third-Party Advertising; Developer’s Advertising or Marketing; Analytics | Linked to you |
| Crash Data | Analytics; App Functionality | Linked to you |
| Other Diagnostic Data | Third-Party Advertising; Developer’s Advertising or Marketing; Analytics; App Functionality | Linked to you |
| Product Interaction | Developer’s Advertising or Marketing | Not linked to you |
If you confirm a translation issue report, the displayed word, translations, original and translated sentence context, language pair, book title, valid ISBN, numeric reading position, installation identifier and app version/build may be sent to PostHog for analytics and app functionality. The report does not contain an EPUB file or complete page. Diagnostics may include crash details, app/device information, ad failures, and limited book title/ISBN/position for reader errors. Routine analytics record interactions and outcomes rather than full book text.
Services and website
The app uses PostHog for analytics and confirmed translation feedback, Sentry for crash and error diagnostics, and Google AdMob for advertising. The BookClue version service receives an installation identifier and app/device version information for update checks. Apple Translation processes supported translations on-device; iOS may download language resources and Apple may receive usage/performance metrics without the source or translated text. Website hosting and security through Cloudflare may process IP addresses, browser information, requested URLs and technical logs. The website follows your system appearance. When configured, it uses PostHog via e.bookclue.com for pageviews, App Store link clicks, language changes and support email link clicks. Data may include browser identifiers in cookies/local storage, device/browser information, language, and page/referrer URLs without query strings or fragments. Website analytics are separate from the mobile App Store disclosures. Session recording, automatic interaction capture and website advertising scripts are disabled. Pages opened with source=app are excluded.
Your choices and deletion
You choose which EPUBs to import and may remove them individually. Reset app data removes the local reading database and imported books; uninstalling also removes app storage, subject to operating-system backups. Resetting rotates the analytics identifier but does not currently remove the separately stored update-check identifier. It does not erase records already received by providers. Translation feedback is optional and sent only after confirmation. Ad requests follow the app’s consent checks and applicable system permissions.
Retention and international processing
Local records remain until removed, reset or uninstalled, subject to device backup settings. Provider-held records are retained under the relevant service settings and applicable requirements; local deletion does not automatically delete them. Service providers may process information outside your country. Their notices describe their retention and international-transfer practices; this policy does not promise a fixed retention period for all providers.
Your privacy rights
Depending on your location, you may have rights to access, correct, obtain or delete personal information, restrict or object to processing, withdraw consent, or complain to a privacy regulator. Send requests and your region to support@bookclue.com. Device-based records may require additional information to identify; some records cannot be attributed to a named person. Please do not send EPUB files or sensitive information unless requested. Mandatory rights remain unaffected.
Children and changes
BookClue is a general reading app and is not specifically designed for children. If you have a concern about a child’s information, contact support@bookclue.com. Practices may vary with features, settings and region. We update this policy when practices change and display the revision date above.
